intelligence beyond measure

shld i appeal to anderson? only 3 reasons i can think of doing it is>
1) i dunnoe who else is going to standrews
and 2) the pts of anderson n standrews are identical so WHY NOT?
and 3) yixuan and my europe tour mate - sophia, are going there.
what lousy reasons they are. =/

i went to the library and watched 'the golden compass' wwith ham on tue.
it was great to see her again. HEHE.
so let's talk abt the movie first.

actually i wanted to watch 'enchanted' cause i wanted to watch a gd romcom. but i thought - just watch lah. and it turned out pretty gd.

i give it 4 stars.

1 star for the interesting storyline, 1 star for the wonderkids in the production, 1 star for the great CGI, and 1 star for the stellar cast. 1 star lost because of the composition of the movie. =( it was kind of haphazard and a little wierd when piecing the scenes together. but it is a wonderful movie of friendship. so i dont understand why there have been talks abt it being anti-Christian and all.

storyline: Lyra Belaqua, living in Oxford's Jordan College, is not but a young girl living among scholars. Her world may seem diverse, from physical embodiments of souls that take the shape of an animal, but similar with people around you to become friends and enemies. She is thrown into a perilous adventure when she overhears a conversation of an extraordinary microscopic particle, Dust. This particle is said to unite different worlds, and is feared by many who want to destroy it forever. As Lyra is flung into the middle of this horrible struggle, she meets wondrous creatures both big and small, and villains who are not what they seem. Gobblers, that kidnap children, will turn out in the most unexpected places. And a magical compass of gold that will answer any question if one is skilled enough to read it. Lyra's adventure continues throughout these three books, and the first is about to be told.

Oxford's Jordan College! no wonder i recognised the place when i saw it!
i just went there on my trip to london. KNEW IT! =)

it stars newcomer, Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra, Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Eva Green,Sam Elliot, Ian Mckellen as the voice of Iorek Byrnison -an armored polar bear, Ben Walker and Christopher Lee. [not the singaporean LAH.]

i particularly like Nicole Kidman's role as the mysterious Mrs Coulter and Lyra, who is extremely charming and endearing. okayy, that abt sums it all up. but just go watch it anyway.

i borrowed this book just recently too. HOOKED. =)

MR MONK AND THE BLUE FLU.

short synopsis - Adrian Monk is a brillant detective with a slight flaw. He has OCD [obsessive compulsive disorder] and seems to be highly irritated by the sight of dustmites, dirt and anything unclean. However, this doesn't stop him from solving cases with his acute sense for minute details that normal cops seem not to possess.

After a year of negotiations, talks have broken down between the city of San Francisco and the police force. With no contract, the police officers have decided to stage a "blue flu" and call in sick to work until the city gives in to their demands. With almost everyone on strike, the mayor is desperate. He reinstates several former police detectives to help out in the crunch, including reinstating Adrian Monk and promoting him to Captain. While Monk is thrilled to have his badge back, his staff of detectives leaves something to be desired. Between the anger management issues, the forgetfulness, and the conspiracy theories, they make Monk look almost normal. Still, the city needs them. There is a serial killer at large who preys on women and takes their left shoe. Then a series of impromptu murders begin to take place all over the city. Is there a pattern? Can Monk lead his team of detectives to the solution? What will happen when the strike ends?

[Written by Mark Baker]

i think it is brillant. =) SERIOUSLY. the book combines both humour and intelligence with such pizazz that i couldn't stop reading it. I CAN PROUDLY SAY THAT I FINISHED IT WITHIN THAT DAY THAT I BORROWED IT. =) oops. supposed to read slowly and wait for ham cause she borrowed 8 bks. =/ OH WELLS.

so now i have better thngs to do - watch heroes, csi: miami AND monk as well. =)
