2 WEEEKS.

just a random thought of the day and had to get it down in words before i forget the idea that just occurred out of nowhere. i just realised that i've been through many music phases in my [rather short] lifetime. hmms, let's see and start in a chronological order for easy reference.

1. early ages [age 5 onwards til early primary sch yrs]:

i used to listen to Class 95 fm [best mix of music YEAH] and rlly got to hear alot of perennial hits or what i would call, my dad's time kind of music. then there was my dad's stash of cds. there was THE CARPENTERS, BEE GEES, MICHAEL JACKSON [he was still alright until he got himself bleached HAHA], SIMON AND GARFUNKEL, THE BEATLES, etc.

he played them so often that until now i still can remember what song comes next. =P

there was also chinese music and my favourite artist then was zhou hua jian or WAKIN CHAU. i thought his music was good and i love it when he sang acoustic. it was just him strumming the guitar and singing those songs with such meaningful lyrics. [AH, GOOD OLE DAYS.]

oh yah, my dad even has a MADONNA cd. but i dont like her and he never played it before. =P

i do LOVE the oldies; i love the simplicity of their lyrics and it's just rlly interesting how these are still classics, after so many years. the tunes are NOT BAD TOO. =)

2. primary 3-5:

it was ALL ABOUT POP MUSIC AND BOYBANDS. say >>> britney spears, christina aguilera [in her early teenybopper days]; BOYBANDS like westlife [their my fave HAHA], backstreet boys, a1, n'sync, ERR - cant rmb who else. i even listened to [the all-famous, well at least to ME] AQUA, cause one of my cousins had the cd. such great times to reminiscence about.

i'm a barbie girl, in a barbie world. HAHAHA. X)

i would say it's such a mistake rlly, but back then, it was all the rage. HAH. [-.-"]

then there was m2m, the girl duo with high-pitched voices and WERE NORWEGIANS [ah like SONDRE LERCHE but less talent though HAHAHA] whom i liked [BACK THEN] and that was the first album i got. i still have it but now i think the songs are QUITE irritating. accept for their hit single - DON'T SAY YOU LOVE ME.

hey, you ppl out there of MY time, you still remember them? =P

3. P5, P6 to lower sec years:

chinese music. that and i listened to YES 93.3 always. they had a segment on the radio where they told stories and played music after that. so it made the listeners a little more imaginative. they created these scenarios in their heads and they had the music to set the mood. (o.0) the first song i remember hearing [vividly] was FIR's 'fly away'. then it just sparked my love for chinese pop. there was the emergence of s'porean musicians as well, so it got me going. and that's why i went to k-box with yi xuan and wan fen >>> to sing along to these songs. [*shakes head and laughs*]

but towards the end of lower secondary, i felt that a change was coming along. something that will really define me. which leads toooOOOOOOOOO

[editor's note: the first english song that had an impression on me, after my few years of not listening to english radio, was introduced by jia yi. it was called 'THIS LOVE' and the band is STILL MY FAVE. =D =D =D ]

>>> HEHEHE YOU KNOW WHO. ;)

4. sec 3 and 4 and BEYONDDD

you could say this was a start of something new. [EH, PUN NOT INTENDED] i was listening to MORE OF POWER 98 AND PERFECT TEN 98.7 FM. it was just all about english music. i guess i was returning to my roots. but there were 2 parts to this musical phase. the gradual change came because i've always preferred english radio than chinese. there was more banter, call-ins were ALWAYS FUN and they had great jokes. [or LAME ONES.]

and i'm a true blue ang-moh kia. =P not saying that i will abandon my chinese heritage though.

i) pop music, R&B, then ROCK BANDS.

at the start, i didn't have any favourite genre. i was more like a - 'ANYTHING ALSO CAN' OR 'CHIN CHAI' listener. i listened to mainstream. it was like simple plan and avril lavigne most of the time and the occasional damien rice and john mayer. smetimes it was linkin park and matchbox twenty too. IT WASN'T SOON BEFORE LONG [i like this pun ALOT] that i got hooked onto rock music. and EMO [LOLLS] music. i remember watching a music vid and it was MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE'S HELENA on yahoomusic. that was WAYYY BEFORE the song even came out on radio airwaves.

my first impression? wierd but VERY interesting. [okayy, all MCR fans, pls don't STONE me cause i do like Gerard Way HEHEHE. =P ]

and then i got intro-ed to more emo and rock music thanks to a certain GOH JIA YI [HAHAHA] and a very rare species of rodent, also known as hamster. so the more they talked about it, the more i listened. the more i listened, the more i learned. and the more i learned, the more i -

ERR. okayy. im suffering from MAJOR WORD SHORTAGE AT THE MOMENT. =/

ii) then it was year 4 of secondary school, the final year. amidst studying like a mad-hatter and mugging all day, i found time to listen to music. it's like medicine to the soul and a form of relaxation. by and by, i listened to enough 'MUTTONS AT MIDNIGHT', 'SAY IT WITH SOO' AND 'THE SHAN AND ROS SHOW' to know what kind of prizes they were giving away and which show was best to dedicate a song to your friends. and i tried to win some of the prizes cause i had some luck when i won KEANE'S 'UNDER THE IRON SEA' album on POWER 98.

then i won the tickets to TC5 SHOWCASE and BOY, WAS I ELATED!!! =D

now i'm bent on winning things and dedicating songs on SOO'S SHOW only because she was the one who [usually] reads out my dedications and she's the one who called me to tell me about the GOOD NEWS. and oh, BTW, SHE LIKES JASON MRAZ TOO.

all the better for me. =D

recently, i'm more of a indie/folk/jazz/acoustic/soft-rock music listener. my current favourite singers are sondre lerche and JASON MRAZ and nerina pallot. but my fave band still remains the same. i always thought that they might disappear after their first album but their first album was REALLY GOOOOD. so i'm glad they returned and although their sound has changed immensely, they still sound AWESOME.

yes - MARCH is the MONTH of MAROON 5. =D

_______________________________________

my life is actually reflected by my changing taste in music. with every new friend i make, i get introduced to new music. that was what happened in the past, when i was still GROWING UP. NOW, i'm more or less settled with rock music, as long as they are not MEGADETH OR METALLICA OR HELLOWEEN or those SUPER metal rock bands. i would say FOO FIGHTERS and LP are still acceptable.

cause too much screaming means high decibels and a deaf me. not my kind of music rlly. =/

k. getting sme sleep.
TTYL. =)
