i just thought i would like to mention that my grandfather passed away last sunday, on the 20th of april 2008, at around 4 plus. he was surrounded by his family before his last breath so he is indeed fortunate. although he is not conscious when we were there, i am sure he felt our presence. no matter, he has ascended to heaven to be with our heavenly father and will watch over his 8 children, their 8 spouses, 16 grandchildren, some 4/5 spouses and 7 great-grandchildren.

but to christians/catholics and the likes - we believe that there is life after death and that death is but life's next great adventure. ;) and in life, we do many things, especially for the people around us, such that they will celebrate our contributions when we're gone.
